Who may participate?
TxPEP is open to all principals or aspiring principals in the State. Principals of schools that will be categorized as academically unacceptable (AU) for the first time this fall are required to complete the program during the 2008-09 school year. Further, principals that have been newly assigned to AU2, AU3, or AU4 campuses for 2008, are required to complete the program during the 2008-09 school year. Other principals or aspiring principals may apply for the program from June 1 through Labor Day 2008 and will be notified of their enrollment shortly after their registration request is received (accommodated on a space available basis).
What is the time commitment and schedule?
In order to satisfy the minimum program requirements, a principal should be prepared to invest approximately 100 hours from September 2008 through June 2009. The program has been redesigned to minimize the time that a principal must be off the campus to participate in learning events. A significant portion of the program content will be delivered on-line and can accessed
24-7. Further, network learning events will be scheduled at times that are convenient for their members and that minimize travel time and expenses.
TxPEP kicks off with the administration of the 360° assessment in the August-September timeframe followed by a program orientation meeting for participants in October (to be held in five regional locations around the State). After these initial activities, participants begin the implementation of their learning plans through on-line coursework and participation in their learning network from November through May. The program concludes with a final program meeting in June 2009.
Will I be penalized if I do not complete the program?
Optional (or non-required) participants will not be penalized for not completing the program. However, the State makes approximately a $6,000-$7,000 investment for each program participant, and an individual should take seriously his/her commitment to completing the program. Further, any optional participant who does not complete his/her 360-degree assessment in the Fall (deadline will be in late September 2008) will be dropped from the program before the Fall Program Orientation meetings in October.
For required participants, participation in and completion of the program will be monitored by members of the Campus Intervention Team (CIT) and a participant's direct supervisor. Periodic reports of a participant's progress will be made available for these monitoring purposes. Failure to participate or complete the program will be reported and managed consistent with the processes established for reporting on other CIT recommendations and implementation progress (see Texas Education Code section 39.1323).
